About

I am a climate and environmental historian interested in the social dynamics of societies and their interaction with the natural environment / climate. Modern (i.e. industrial, mostly western) societies have left a huge footprint in ecosystems suggesting the announcement of a new geologic age, dominated by humans, i.e.  "the Anthropocene" (P. Crutzen). Precisely these societies seem to consider themselves invulnerable to the consequences of global change, which could be a fatal error. In my opinion, the geography of global environmental risk is much more diverse than most attempts at mapping them seem to suggest.
